Now in its sixth year, the Best Young Tech competition seeks to honor exceptional technicians who move the service repair industry forward through career development, innovation in their role, technical or educational achievement, community service, and importance to the shop. New for 2026, we’re adding the Best Young Diesel Tech Category, designed to honor one exceptional diesel technician who’s moving the fleet maintenance industry forward through career development, innovation in their role, technical or educational achievement, community service, and importance to the fleet they serve.

As a contest sponsor, you’ll help fuel the future of successful shops and fleets by favorably branding your products to these highly targeted and highly sought-after audiences.

Criteria to Win

In 2025 sponsors received over 1.5 million impressions by being affiliated with the Best Young Tech contest. This will grow in 2026 as we expand reach to include diesel technicians with the Fleet Maintenance audience.

Sponsors get the opportunity to favorably brand themselves to this younger generation via advertising, logo placement, product rewards to the winners, and more.

The contest is promoted to audiences of Motor Age and Fleet Maintenance. This consists of 200,000+ independent service repair shops in the US AND 52K Fleet Maintenance repair facilities.

Awards Sponsorship – $12,000 Net + $5,000 Add-On Opportunity

Print/Digital Exposure:

  • Logo exposure on April Motor Age and Fleet Maintenance print ads announcing contest open
  • Sponsor receives a full page ad in the October Motor Age issue OR a junior page ad in the October Fleet Maintenance issue. $5,000 add-on opportunity to have print ad featured in both publications

Logo Exposure:

  • Prominent exposure on all promotional collateral driving entries and on contest registration page
  • Logo featured in all promotional emails driving people to view winners
  • Logo featured at AAPEX/SEMA award presentation

 Editorial Deliverables:

  • Featured section in October issues of Motor Age and Fleet Maintenance created by editorial staff spotlighting the Best Young Tech and Best Young Diesel Tech contest winners.
  • BYT Winner interviewed by Motor Age editor. Video shared on Vehicleservicepros.com and Motor Age’s YouTube Channel. Sponsor mention in video.
  • BYDT Winner interviewed by Fleet Maintenance editor. Video shared on FleetMaintenance.com. Sponsor mention in video.
  • Inclusion in editorial roundtable video with one representative from each sponsoring company of the Best Young Tech and Best Young Diesel Tech Awards (Roundtable video to be focused on attaining young techs, career trajectories, training, products, and more.)
  • Company recognition during editorial roundtable video

Additional Requirements for Sponsors:

  • Sponsors will also be required to provide a prize valued at $250+ to each winner of the Best Young Tech and Best Young Diesel Tech. Prizes can include tools/equipment, gift cards, swag packages, and more!

    • Time in the Industry: At least two years in the industry

    • Career Development: Promotions, additional responsibilities taken on in a short time period.

    • Innovation: Suggested/created time and/or money-saving processes the shop implemented.

    • Technical or Educational Achievement: Technician must be ASE-certified. Plus additional degrees, designations (AAP, etc.), certifications earned, etc.

    • Personal Attributes: Soft “people” skills, mentoring opportunities they’ve taken on, personal integrity, leadership skills, community service involvement, etc.

    Best Young Diesel Tech

    • Time in the Industry: At least two years in the industry

    • Career Development: Promotions, additional responsibilities taken on in a short time period.

    • Innovation: Suggested/created time and/or money-saving processes the shop implemented.

    • Technical or Educational Achievement: Technician must be ASE-certified. Plus additional degrees, designations (AAP, etc.), certifications earned, etc.
